Arlington, TX--The Dallas Wings (7-8) lost another heartbreaker to the Minnesota Lynx 76-72 in a game where star center, Liz Cambage, only played 14 minutes due to an eye injury. Skylar Diggins-Smith led the way with 16 points and Allisha Curry chipped in 15. Here's some of my takeaways from the game.
1) The Wings committed 17 turnovers which killed numerous offensive possessions and led to Minnesota fast breaks.
2) The Wings have got to get better at making the entry pass to Liz. Rather than rotate the ball if Liz is double teamed, the Wings perimeter players are trying to force the ball in to her.
3) Liz holds the ball too long once she gets an entry pass. The offense becomes stagnant as players assume she's going to shoot so they just watch.
4) Liz has too many turnovers which is the result of her holding the ball too long.
5) I like the substitution pattern last game. Coach Williams gave the starters a rest much earlier and reserves like Latecia Romero and Cayla George got valuable PT.
6) Cayla George gives the Wings a consistent three point threat from the post position. She is smart and has heart; a good pickup,
7) I'm not sure why Karela Davis isn't playing. She did not play one second against the Lynx.
8) Azura' Stevens had her worst game since becoming a starter. She was open but her teammates didn't get the ball to her,
9) The Wings need a serious 3-4 game winning streak before the All-Star Break,
