About Me

It has taken me 20 years to develop my unique voice. As jazz legend, Miles Davis, said, “You have to practice a long time before you can play like yourself.” My photographic style has evolved into the process of observing, visualizing, interpreting, practicing and painting with light what I see in a manner that makes people think. I don’t shoot what I see. I shoot what I feel. If I can’t feel something when I view one of my images, how can I expect viewers to be moved?

I don’t make pictures; I attempt to construct complex interpretations of life through portraits, documentary projects, and capturing the beauty of motion in a wide variety of sports and action disciplines. My images are a recording of a period in the life of someone or something. But what I capture is more than a second in time; it is my perception and interpretation of reality. Thus, I photograph subjects with a purpose underneath the surface. My lenses burrow into the faces and souls of my subjects searching for truth as to who they are and how they feel in that moment.

My journey is ongoing and only limited by my resources and opportunity; but, “There Ain’t No Stopping Me Now.” I love what I do. Jazz baritone, Gregory Porter says it best, “There's some doubt that’s out about this love but I won’t let it be. There will be no love that’s dying here for me.”

I will keep on documenting sport, dance, weddings, people, places, action and Black College Marching Bands at every opportunity until some combination of my eyes, knees, or health fails me. When that moment arrives, it will be “Time to Come Home.”
