Women in Sports Project

Urban Sports News is pleased to announce that we will be photographing our latest athlete, Ellena Torres, in the Women in Sports Project at Texas Southern University in Houston this week. Ellena competes in volleyball and track and field. She plays setter in volleyball and throws the Hammer and Javelin in track. She won All-SWAC honors this week for placing third in the Javelin. She is an accounting major who will graduate in December 2017.
The Women In Spots Project is a non-commercial photo/essay series that features females athletes who have succeeded on and off the playing field. Athletes in a wide range of disciplined have been interviewed and photographed over the last two years. One of the goals of the project is to photograph them on and off the field in a range on cutting edge ways that show them in a positive light.
Currently some of the athletes in the following disciplines are on display in the USN Gallery at TJ's Catfish and Wings in Arlington, Texas. Some of the featured, current and featured athletes are: Secrett Anderson (basketball, Grambling); Marlyn Campa (soccer, Texas Southern); Angeleigh Davis, (basketball, Wayland Baptist); Tonishea Mack (basketball, Grambling); Nikki Haimes (soccer, Rollins College); Paige Hayward (soccer, Texas Southern); Onyessonam Nolisa (basketball, Texas Wesleyan); Ricquel Butler, (Basketball, Jarvis Christian); and, Kacey Kreel, (Softball, Texas Southern).
