This month we will feature sports athletes, coaches and administrators who have left a lasting impact on the world of sports. Many of these figures you will know; others will be new to you. All are people who have made the sports world a better place because of their contributions.
Mike Davis is the Head Basketball Coach at Texas Southern University. Davis is a native of Alabama and played college Basketball for the University of Alabama. He averaged 10.1 points a game and was a second round draft choice of the Milwaukee Bucks but never played in the League. He played professionally in Switzerland and the Continental Basketball Association.
Davis began his coaching career at Miles College and then spent several years coaching in Venezuela. He returned to the States and served as an assistant at Alabama. Bobby Knight hired him as an assistant at Indiana.
He has served as the Head Coach at Indiana, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Texas Southern. His record is 323-217. His 2001-2002 Indiana team was the NCAA Runner-Up. He has taken seven teams to the NCAA Tournament and five teams to the NIT. His teams have won five regular season conference titles. His 2014-2015 Texas Southern team won both the conference and tournament titles.
